Arizonans for Gun Safety (AzGS) is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to reducing gun deaths and injuries with common sense, prevention-oriented solutions. We have partners in both Phoenix and Tucson representing health care, child advocacy groups, faith communities, law enforcement, education, parent groups and community organizations. Since 1999, we have developed programs to educate the public on the impact of gun violence, run public information campaigns on specific gun violence issues, advocated sensible measures to address the problem, and worked to prevent youth violence.
In 1996 a group of concerned citizens, many with family members who had been killed or injured by gunshots, founded Citizens of Arizona to Prevent Gun Violence, our state’s first gun violence prevention group. Community leaders from law enforcement, child advocacy, faith organizations, survivors of violence, education and health care joined the effort “to engage individuals, organizations, and public officials in a state-wide campaign to prevent gun violence.” Several years later CAP-Gun Violence became Arizonans for Gun Safety (AzGS).
